A mystery

Where do you suppose this funny little bee came from?
I found it on my sleeve when I was sitting in the kitchen with Wyanne at 5 this morning.
I know ladybugs are good luck, what about bees?

He got to sweeten my just starting to bloom sweet peas. Can't wait for
Rose to be in a regular room so I can fill it with sweet peas!

What's cookin in the deakers kitchen this week

It seems to be I only get to this every two month.

Here it is June 11th.

a sampling of what we've had:

lemony risotto/asparagus/shrimp

my pancetta turkey meatloaf which I love!

Last night tried a new recipe:

red snapper layered with potatoes, tomatoes, in a wine sauce

(turned out great)

tonight - swordfish - with willie's homemade mustard

fish tacos with red snapper

jambalaya

hot dogs - again with willie's mustard

next week, trying a recipe from Daily Candy:

Prawns and cannelloni beans, calls for lots of basil which we certainly have

Wow, I can't believe it's been almost two months since I put anything here.

Tax day, April 15 Pea soup cooking with bone from our Easter ham, this should be two dinners

salmon and salmon salad, always good for two dinners

Turkey Italian sausage/cannelini bean casserole

spare ribs, cole slaw and corn for Sat. dinner with Ann/Neil

probably some frozen fish

and maybe tempura shrimp

that should hold us for the week

2/18 Homemade pizza topped with leftover spaghetti and meatballs

a wonderful new discovery - home made lemon curd

2/10 Back on my game - sorta - at least I have a plan and the food for 7 dinners this week:

salmon, then salmon salad

chili/corn bread, then leftover chili over baked potatoes

spaghetti/meatballs paired with Rod's fabulous homemade bread

Asian chicken salad - made with chicken, slaw, fried wontons(yum)

tempura shrimp - love it - from the frozen food section

also am going to make a lemon pound cake from the wonderful lemons from Rose, Paula and the Murphys

lots of soup lately, some from the freezer (not nearly as good as it was the first time around)

fabulous bean soup with honey baked ham bone (can't afford a big ham, but they sell the bones that still have tons of meat on them)

salmon and salmon salad with great croutons from the bread that isn't quite, from Rod's new bread making ventures

plain old turkey burgers, but think I'll spice them up with some pepper jelly, amazing what you can use it on, everything from fish to chicken to pork to eggs

tuna melts with the tasty rye bread someone gave me

lasagna, both cheesy and cheeseless (how not fun)

pork tenderloin and chop suey with the remains

tamales from el nopalito with refried beans and rice

Starting over with just Rod and I:

a wonderful chicken soup from that rotisserie chicken I bought a while back (I threw the carcass in the freezer)

I got to use the very cool wusthof santoku knife Rod gave me for Christmas to chop the vegetables!

tonight - I think it's tuna sandwiches as we have lots of good bread left.

Some Christmas highlights:

the rib roast at Tim and Lynne's accompanied by fabulous roasted vegetables and a gorgeous spinach salad contributed by Maureen

My African peanut stew, the beloved fish stew, steaks galore, for breakfast and dinner, blueberry waffles, lots of bacon, butternut squash lasagna, scratch mac and cheese, vegetable torte.

In a desperate hurry - I broke down and bought a rotisserie chicken, which will get a work out this week.

We got a whole 'nother pot of fabulous turkey soup from some delinquent wings.

Saturday: steak and wine tasting with the oldie but goodie bottles from the bar

Sunday: scallops on skewers

Monday: fish tacos

Tuesday: turkey burgers

Wednesday: spaghetti and meatballs

Thursday: boboli-got scratched - instead we had the divine bacon,eggs,fried potato, biscuit supper (Rod had leftover steak - his dream breakfast for which he asks everyday-"steak and eggs today?"-my replies range from none, ihop down the road?, help yourself, smirk)

Saturday: crock pot fajitas

Sunday: Mrs. Howard's sun dried tomato meatloaf

Monday: Janet's sister's fabulous minestrone

Tuesday: crab and rice salad with lovely roasted beets (Rod says beets taste like dirt:-()and mangoes (my newest love in the kitchen)

Wednesday: meatloaf sandwiches

Thursday: more minestrone

Yea - I can get by one more day without going to the market-
